UFC or not to UFC?

  • I'm a fan of the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) mixed martial arts competitions.
  • Don is not.
  • I'd like Shultzy's to show the UFC Fight Night on April 1st on TV.
  • Don does not.
  • The name on the front of the restaurant is Shultzy's.
  • Don is Shultzy, I am not.
Normally, that would mean no UFC on TV, but who ever said we were normal. So, we have a poll on the right hand side of this blog that asks for your opinion. Don thinks that the UFC (and combat sports in general) are not a good thing to show at a restaurant where people are eating, and I can see his point. But, it doesn't bother me, and maybe it doesn't bother most other people either.

Make your voice heard. Vote in the poll.

Don reserves the right to do what he wants (he is Shultzy, after all), but we're interested in hearing what most people think.

Also, if you want to send us your opinion on the topic, drop us a note at

Update (3/31/09)
"No" has prevailed, so we won't be making a big deal out of UFC events.

Thanks for participating!

More March Madness beer deals!

Sadly, the UW Huskies are out of the NCAAs, so our Top-25 special has come to an end.  It was a blast pouring lots of inexpensive micro pints while we rooted on the Huskies, and we look forward to more fun with it next year.

But, we're not quite done yet.  For Thursday's and Friday's NCAA Sweet 16 games, we have a new idea.  It's the NCAA Sweet 16 Show Your Colors event.  Come on in and watch the games at Shultzy's, and if you wear your team's colors, your first pint of Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale is just $2!  And, if you come in wearing a logo hat, t-shirt, or sweatshirt from your favorite team, your first Sierra Nevada pint is only $1.50!  I better go find out where my Memphis Tigers shirt is.

The fun starts at 4pm Thursday and Friday, so come on in and root on your 2nd favorite team (we still love the Huskies) to victory!  By the way, the Gonzaga game is 7pm Friday night.

Trivia Question of the Day

What happened to Charity Trivia Night last night?

Well, we bit off a little more than we could chew, thinking we could do trivia night on St. Patrick's Day. OK, we won't try that again. And to increase the degree of difficulty, our ISP had a network outage, so we had to process all the credit cards by hand. It was enough to make our staff want to cry in their green beers at the end of the shift.

We apologize to everyone who came last night expecting trivia night and want to assure you that it will be back and running normally next Tuesday.

Thanks for your understanding.

Buffalo sightings at Shultzy's

We were out and about this past week and had the opportunity to try some delicious buffalo burgers. Inspired, we added them to the menu here at Shultzy's.

They're 1/3 pound buffalo burgers, and we've heard they're higher in protein and lower in fat than either chicken or turkey. We serve them with our burger sauce on a sesame seed roll with crisp romaine lettuce, roma tomato slices, and Skagit Valley dill pickle chips. The buffalo burger's clean taste really allows the flavor of the lettuce and tomato to show through as perfect complements. You can still add ketchup or mustard, but you may want to try it plain first. I didn't add cheese to mine, but you're welcome to for an extra dollar. Maybe I'll try Pepper Jack next time.

Buffalo burgers are on special this month, and if you like them, perhaps they'll join the permanent menu. Let us know what you think in person or drop us an e-mail to if you'd prefer to contact us electronically.

March Madness (even before the NCAA Basketball tournament)!

It's March Madness already at Shultzy's. So many things happening here in the next few weeks!

Today is Remember the Alamo day. It's the 173rd anniversary of the Battle of the Alamo, so we have Bud Lime Lights for only $1.73 (we figured Bud Light Lime was an American beer served Mexican style, so it was a good match). In keeping with the America-Mexico theme, we also have Sauza Gold or Jim Beam shots for only $2.99 all day. Come on in! Blog special: if you come in wearing a Davy Crockett hat, we'll

Tomorrow (Saturday) is the UW-Washington State basketball game. This is a big one going into the Pac-10 and NCAA tournaments, with lots at stake for both teams in addition to the usual level of mutual animosity. It's sold out, so watch it here. And our Top-25 special is still in full gear -- Have your 1st Sierra Nevada Celebration IPA pint for only $1.60 (in honor of the #16 Huskies and their Pac-10 title). If we win on Saturday, who knows how low it will go next week.

Tuesday and Wednesday is UEFA Champions League soccer on TV -- the second leg of the home and home knockout round. The games start at 11:30 am, so stop in for lunch and a beer. By the way, for those of you perturbed by our framed Manchester United jersey, we have a framed Seattle Sounders jersey on the way, so you won't have to look at it too much longer. Tuesday night is also Charity trivia night (benefiting Bikeworks Columbia City), so put on your thinking caps and be ready to do battle.

Thursday is UEFA Cup soccer at lunch, and then it's UW's first game in the Pac-10 tournament against the ever-dangerous Team to be Announced in early afternoon. We'll be running our Top-25 special next week too, so who knows how low the Micro pints will go. The Pac-10 semis are Friday, and the Pac-10 finals are on Sunday. Go Huskies!!!!

And, if that weren't enough for one week, we have St. Practice Day, a St. Patrick's Day warmup, on Saturday. We'll have a bagpiper and discounts on Green St. Patrick's Day Bud Light 16 oz. Aluminum Bottles (bottles are green, but the beer is not) and other seasonal drinks. We'll also have both Bass and Guinness on tap for St. Patrick's Day so you can enjoy traditional Black & Tans.

Wow! I'm tired just writing this post. And, defying all logic, I'm headed back to Japan this week (I haven't even chronicled by beer adventures from the last trip), so I'll have to monitor things from afar. Have a great week!
