OktoBEERfest is here

Grant Twitchell didn't waste any time getting started on OktoBEERfest. On Saturday, Grant was the first to drink an OktoBEERfest liter and the first to get a card stamp. But don't fret -- we have lots of time ('til October 30th) and lots of beers (24 different Oktoberfest beers or more) to let you get your 12 stamps to win a liter beer mug of your very own and a place on our 2011 OktoBEERfest plaque and the immortality that comes with that.

Another El Cubano fan is heard from!

‎Leslie Kelly, Seattle food critic, professed her love of Shultzy's Bar & Grill's new El Cubano sandwich in Seattle Weekly's Voracious Blog. Her usual favorite (Hot Italian with a fried egg) is also pretty tasty, too! Thanks, Leslie!

Saturday Festivities: Oktoberfest and Huskies-Huskers!

This Saturday will be an action-packed one at Shultzy's.

The UW Huskies are facing the Nebraska Cornhuskers at 12:30pm on our 8 flatscreen TVs. We'll have $5.99 Big Dogs (double greyhounds), $5.99 Big Reds (double bloody marys), and $3.99 IPAs to keep your thirst quenched while you cheer on your favorite team.

Also, as if that weren't enough, Saturday is the 1st day of Oktoberfest 2011! And we're back this year with Shultzy's 3rd annual OktoBEERfest. Just stop in and ask your server for a card to keep track of your progress. We expect to pour about 25 different Oktoberfest/harvest beers from Saturday through October 30th. If you drink a liter of 12 different beers, you get your name on this year's plaque AND you get a Shultzy's liter mug of your own to take home. For the OktoBEERfest diehards, we will again have a special award for the person who gets to 12 beers the fastest and one for the person who drinks the most different varieties.

We should have four or five different Oktoberfest beers on tap this weekend, so you can get off to a great start.

Grass-fed burgers coming soon to Shultzy's!

Mike Chartrey came by Shultzy's today and dropped us off some of his fantastic grass-fed beef. Mike raises cattle in Onalaska, WA, about 90 minutes south of here, and he raises them with no antibiotics or added growth hormones.

Grass-fed beef ranching is not only good for the animals, but results in better tasting, healthier beef for you. We'll be adding Chartrey Ranch burgers to our menu, soon, and we'll let you know here when these super-premium local burgers are available for you to enjoy.

SARKburgers in the news in Honolulu

Honolulu Star Advertiser ran an article today on Washington's fondness for Football Coach Steve Sarkisian, and Shultzy's got to be a part of it.

New Flavor
Steve Sarkisian has brought changes to a win-starved UW program
By Ferd Lewis
SEATTLE » Don Schulze knows just how hungry University of Washington football fans are for a winner.

“Our best seller every football game weekend is the ‘Sarkburger’ ” — named for Huskies coach Steve Sarkisian — says the proprietor of Shultzy’s Sausage, an institution on “The Ave.,” as the main thoroughfare in the UW District is known.

The “Sarkburger” — described as “freshly ground top sirloin, swiss cheese, crispy hickory smoked bacon, a sweet pineapple ring and caramelized onion with a Sark-iyaki glaze” — is the creation of the Huskies’ third-year head coach, which these days assures popularity here.

“Sark is young, dynamic and approachable — and he can win,” said Schulze, who said he never offered Willingham a chance to design a signature meal because “he couldn’t win.”

You'll need to pay $0.99 to see the whole article, but if you're interested, here's the link to the Honolulu Star Advertiser

Huskies Kickoff and Labor Day Weekend!

UW Huskies open their home football season this Saturday at 4pm vs the Eastern Washington Eagles. In addition to beer, cocktail, and shot specials before the game, we'll have a special post-game offer, too. Hold on to your pre-game receipt and bring it back with you and your friends after the game for $2 off liter beers and $1 off SARKburgers all night long.

Shultzy's will be closed on Sunday September 4th and Monday September 5th for Labor Day Weekend, and we'll see you again on Tuesday at 10am.

One other programming note, there will be no Tuesday Night Trivia this Tuesday night. We will have the usual beer and margarita specials, just no questions to exercise your prodigious (or not so prodigious) intellects. Tuesday night trivia will return to action on Tuesday September 13th.
