Early Victory for the Huskies?

We'll be cheering our hardest to help UW defeat Boise St. tomorrow evening at the new Huskies Stadium, but Shultzy's and YOU* will enjoy our own Victory earlier in the afternoon.

From noon to 3pm, we'll all be enjoying Victory Brewing's Hop Devil IPA pints for just $3.99 and watching the earlier college football games from around the country. Come on in before the game for a Victory and a SARKburger and get fired up to cheer on UW to Victory.

* Obviously, YOU must be 21 to enjoy beer at Shultzy's and YES, we always check ID.

Extended "Autumn" Weekend hours are almost here

College Football is back this Thursday, and the NFL is back next week. And the first HUSKIES game of the season is Saaturday versus the Boise State Potato-heads.*

With Shultzy's having ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, and even some channels without the letters "E", "S", "P", and "N" (like the Big Ten Network and DirecTV Sunday Ticket), we'll have LOTS of college and pro football for you to enjoy with a SARKburger and a beer.

Starting this Saturday, we'll be opening at 10am on Saturday and Sunday so you'll be able to catch those East Coast football games, college and pro.

GO HUSKIES and SEAHAWKS!!!

* There's a small possibility that Boise State's nickname is the Broncos, but we're still researching that...

Lagunitas Hop Stoopid on draft

Lagunitas Hop Stoopid (8% ABV) is now on draft, replacing Snoqualmie Summer Ale. Hop Stoopid, a popular hoptastic seasonal, is out of stock in Seattle for 2013 (I know, I tried to get more), so this is your last chance to enjoy it on draft 'til 2014.

Lazy Boy Oktoberfest 2013 Preview (Part 3)

Shawn Loring, Brewer and Founder of Lazy Boy Brewing in Everett, WA invited the gang from Shultzy's to come up and watch/help brew Lazy Boy's 2013 Oktoberfest beer. Shultzy's will be featuring Lazy Boy's modern-style Oktoberfest as part of our annual OktoBEERfest, and we'd never pass up the opportunity to drink a few beers and learn some new things.

JohnO and Don speculate on how much of the tank they could drink themselves.

2013 Lazy Boy Oktoberfest in progress.

We got a little confused on our field trip and instead of "Leave No Man Behind" thought it was "Leave No Beer Behind".

Don thinks he might have lost his car keys, but neither Dan nor JohnO looks very excited about going in the tank after them... * Just kidding -- Don's looking at the sparge process. Yes, "sparge" is a word -- try it in your next Scrabble game!

Bruce, Shawn Loring of Lazy Boy, and Don.

Shawn shares the Oktoberfest 2013 hops with us before adding them to the tank. Don looks very studious while Dan seems like he's having some sort of religious experience.

Beautifully green Sladek hops, a classic for making Pilsner beers, will complement the Pilsner malt in this modern-style Oktoberfest brew.

Dan, based on his advanced margarita-making skills, was chosen to add the hops to the tank of Oktoberfest.

Shawn wanted us to try the warm Oktoberfest in progress, so Travis and his long arms came in handy fishing some out for us. We were somewhat worried that Travis would fall into the tank, but not worried enough to actually do or say anything.

Warm Oktoberfest "beer" from the brew tank -- sweet and tasty -- it would make a great warm breakfast drink.

JohnO, Travis, Hanna, Shawn Loring, and Dan celebrate with Lazy Boy beer. Check out the stylish Lazy Boy shirts!

Thanks to Shawn Loring for kindly hosting us and letting us have a sneak preview of the Lazy Boy Oktoberfest we'll be pouring in September and October in OktoBEERfest.

Dan tries his hand at mash stirring. Or since the stirrer looks a lot like a paddle, perhaps he was working on his canoeing skills.

Dan, JohnO, and Hanna look surprisingly happy given that we hadn't even been drinking yet.

Hanna shows the boys how it's done...

And Hanna was pleased with her contribution to the 2013 Lazy Boy Oktoberfest. She suggested that it be renamed Lazy Boy Hannafest, but Shawn politely declined.

JohnO seems to be having visions while staring into the boiling mash.

Travis won the award for looking most like an actual brewery employee (I think it was the hat, though the funky t-shirt helped, too).

Travis and Don.

All that yummy malt is going into the 2013 Lazy Boy Oktoberfest!

Shawn Loring and Don Schulze

Shawn let us try a taste from a tank of 2013 Lazy Boy Oktoberfest that was about halfway done. Even early, it was delicious, and it will only get better..

In addition to tasting the in-progress 2013 Oktoberfest, we tasted all the Lazy Boy brews (and were especially excited about their "Norwegian Death"). I'd been drinking, too, which probably explains the blurriness of this photo.

Shawn started the day walking us through the brewing process.

Lots of delicious German pilsner malt for Lazy Boy's modern-style German Oktoberfest...

...and Vienna Malt for body.

After our last Oktoberfest brewing adventure, I was wise enough to let Travis do the heavy lifting and throw the malt into the grinder.

Shawn pushes the buttons and gets our 2013 Lazy Boy Oktoberfest tank started.

Shawn keeps a watchful eye on the brewing process.

It's photo posing time!

JohnO and Don staring intently at the mash, as if their concentration will make the beer taste better.

Shawn explains to JohnO and Don that instead of just staring at the mash, they could make themselves useful.
