Shultzy's will be closed Friday for the July 4th holiday.
What will we be doing? BBQ-ing on the Weber at home? Drinking cold beer? Spending the day on a friend's luxury yacht cruising around?* Hey, we can dream, can't we?
I can't speak for my colleagues, but I'll be working on our POS menu system. Since we're closed on Friday, I have time to fix anything I break before we open up on Saturday morning for breakfast.
So, to repeat, Shultzy's will close at Midnight on Thursday, July 3rd and reopen for breakfast at 8am on Saturday, July 5th. Then our schedule will return to normal.
* Note: if you actually do have a luxury yacht and want to surround yourselves with Shultzy's employees instead of supermodels and bon vivants, let's talk.

Attack of the Killer Tomatoes?
The FDA has issued a health warning for raw tomatoes.
As a precautionary measure, Shultzy's has stopped serving raw tomatoes and fresh salsa until the current tomato health concerns are resolved. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Thanks to Kelsey for her clever headline.

The agony of a typo.
Yes, I know.
I've screwed up our first poll ever.
"VOTE for your favorite Shultzy's Server?"
What's with the question mark? Well, I started the poll as "Who is your favorite Shultzy's Server?" And, as with most things, I should have left it well enough alone. But, I didn't. So, I wanted to change it to "VOTE for your favorite Shultzy's server." And that would have been fine. But I messed up the capitalization of "server" and left in the original question mark.
And that's when the agony set in...
For, unlike most web actions, this one is irreversible for practical purposes. The clever people at Google decided an author can't edit a poll once it's started to collect votes. I can't fix the header without starting the poll over again. And since we already have votes and a bunch of competitive employees, I'd be foolhardy to try a "do-over".
So, it is my penalty to have to look at this error each day for the next month or so. Aaargh!
My apologies to our readers.

Shultzy's in Japan? No, but I will be.
I'm headed to Japan tomorrow for a few days, so there won't be any blog updates until I get there. Emily will be sending me beer updates via SMS which I will then relay to the Shultzy's Twitter account and on to the blog. I will have my laptop with me, so I'll keep you up to date with any Shultzy's news that occurs in my absence. While I'm in Japan, there will be plenty of eating and drinking, though in all likelihood I'll have to wait until I return to get my Chimichurri Cheesesteak and 1/2 liter of Bitburger.
See you when I get back!

We're open from 7am-Midnight weekdays. OK, not quite...
I went down the street to the 24-hour grocery.
When I got there, the guy was locking the front door.
I said, 'Hey, the sign says you're open 24 hours.'
He said, 'Yes, but not in a row.'
-- Steven Wright (comedian)
Shultzy's is now open from 7 am to midnight weekdays, but there's an important asterisk. We're actually not open from 10 am-11 am, so our "real" weekday hours are 7 am-10 am and 11 am-midnight. Our hours on the website and the restaurant now reflect that, so we don't disappoint the occasional customers who show up at 10:30 to find a "closed" sign in the door.
What do we do during that hour? Accept deliveries, prep for lunch (onions and peppers don't chop themselves), tidy up, update the beer menu, go shopping, and the other gazillion little things that we can't do when we're focusing on our customers.
